Blue Fir works from inside Jingdezhen — its studios, its material flows, its technical knowledge. Nothing we present is designed from a distance. Here's what that looks like in practice, from first discovery to the object in your hands.
We spend our time in Jingdezhen's workshops, kilns, and material supply chains — looking for studios and makers doing exceptional work, not just familiar names. Discovery happens on-site, not through catalogs.

Not everything we find becomes Blue Fir. We evaluate each object on form, material, and firing quality, and only take forward what meets our standard. Selection comes before anything else — it's the filter everything else passes through.
Jingdezhen porcelain isn't a look to imitate — it's a continuous, thousand-year production system, and the objects we select have to hold up within it. We judge new work against that depth, not against trends.
Once we've chosen a studio or maker to work with, we collaborate closely on the object itself — throwing, glazing, painting, and firing are separate disciplines in Jingdezhen, and getting an object right means understanding how they fit together.

For commissioned pieces, we prototype and test before committing to a final form — checking how an object performs in the hand, not only how it looks. Testing stays grounded in the studio's actual capability, not abstract design.

An object reaches you only after it clears every step before this one. We don't hold inventory for its own sake — availability reflects what's actually been made and approved, not a stocked warehouse.
Nothing ships on the first attempt if it isn't right. We refine glaze, weight, proportion, and finish based on what testing shows us — and we keep improving even after an object is in production.

Everything we do — every selection, every collaboration, every object we put our name behind — makes Blue Fir stronger or weaker. There's no neutral choice. When something goes wrong, we identify it, understand it, solve it, and improve because of it.
