Wheel-thrown forming, the foundational Jingdezhen production method.

Technique
Vessel formed by hand on the potter's wheel. The foundational forming method of Jingdezhen production across all periods. Historically, Jingdezhen throwing practice involved a division of labour between those who opened the initial form and those who refined the wall — a specialisation that distinguished the city's workshop organisation from single-potter traditions elsewhere. Wall thickness consistency, base weight, and foot ring precision are primary quality indicators. Hand-thrown work is required for inclusion in Blue Fir's primary selection categories.
