Cup Stand

A low support on which a tea cup is set, protecting the table and giving the cup a defined place within the tea arrangement.

A cup stand is a shallow support placed beneath a tea cup. It protects the surface beneath from heat and drips, and gives each cup a fixed and composed place on the tea table.

Because it is seen around and beneath the cup, the stand is often given a shape of its own, such as an open flower, so that cup and stand read together as one arrangement.
