Lotus-petal Form

An outline or relief arranged as overlapping lotus petals.

Lotus petals can shape a vessel in two ways: as the outline of the object itself, or as petal lines worked into the body beneath the glaze. Both treatments recall the lotus, long regarded as an emblem of purity and of the cultivated gentleman.

Blue Fir records both as a form feature. The lotus motif page brings these lotus forms together with painted lotus decoration and the flower’s cultural meaning.
