甜白釉
A softly luminous white glaze, valued for its warmth and depth rather than brilliance.
Technical Description
Sweet-white (甜白, tiánbái) describes a soft, warm and luminous white, valued for depth rather than glassy brilliance. The name is traditionally associated with the white porcelain of the early Ming imperial kilns at Jingdezhen.
“Star-and-Moon” (星月釉) is the maker’s own designation for a sweet-white ground punctuated by small iron-brown speckles, like stars across a moonlit sky. It is an atelier name, not a historical glaze category.
